MEXX at Yonge and Eglinton

MEXX opened their flagship store recently just north of Yonge and Eglinton.

The store is known for its mid-range line of business wear and hopes to capitalize on the location. Yonge and Eglinton, once known as Yonge and Eligible has become the home to many young professionals, some with kids, and these professionals want to look good.

It’s not all business suits as one would expect. MEXX is slowly rebranding itself as more than just business casual. There were nods to several F/W 2010 trends.

Not only do the professionals want to look good, but they want their children to look good and MEXX knows that the Yonge and Eglinton area is the home to lots of children. That’s why the two-storey, 17,000 square foot store dedicated the entire second floor to baby and children’s clothing.

Of course, you can’t have baby and children’s clothing without maternity and MEXX has a very good maternity line for women who don’t want to wear maxi dresses. Walter Lamothe, the president of MEXX, told me that his daughter (who is expecting her second child) tested some of the maternity wear, including leggings that don’t cut across the stomach.

MEXX joins the influx of clothing stores to open locations in north Toronto – Club Monaco, Mendocino, Town Shoes, GAP, Roots and Lululemon.

And now some personal favourites (one modeled by stylist Tricia Campbell.) Thanks, Tricia!
