The Auntie Chronicles: Patience

This was what I did this weekend:

Niecelet

My sister-in-law and brother just had their second baby and my brother asked me to come around and help out. I do this regularly because I enjoy spending time with my family. Sometimes it’s just being an extra body to do stuff and sometimes it’s having a conversation about everything while she has a bath.

This past Saturday Niecelet and I went for a walk with the goal of getting a cookie. The walk usually takes 30 minutes (round trip) at a brisk, adult-speed pace. With Niecelet, it took about an hour and a half. This was due to:

Well, she’s a pre-schooler. Have you walked with a pre-schooler?

Moments of not wanting to move. See the photo. I just waited her out and killed time by taking this photo. (She’s going to hate me when she’s older.)

Stopping to stare at stuff

Sitting on every bench between the bakery and home. This involves more staring at stuff

Carrying her and the toy stroller

I did get a little impatient in the beginning but after realizing that it wasn’t going to help, I just went with the flow. We ate our cookie and butter tart (for me), stared at cars, sat on the pavement and climbed up and down stairs.

There are worse ways to spend a nice summer day.
