Why are brown bras so hard to find?

Seriously, why? It’s either feast or famine when it comes to finding brown bras. For some of us, brown is our nude and when our trusted nude bra dies, as they all do, it’s always a hunt to find a nice brown bra so we don’t have to worry about show-through.

Black can work in a pinch but it’s not perfect. Navy works as well and isn’t as stark as black. Dark red too, now that I think about it.

(I don’t spend that much time thinking about my underpinnings. I buy them to ensure my unders remain pinned.)

What I really want is a pretty brown bra that will serve as my lingerie work horse. Here’s what usually happens.

I go into a store – there are four in my area that carry my size and no, La Senza and Victoria Secret don’t count. “Do you have any brown bras?”

Most of the time I get a blank, ‘do we? I don’t know. Maybe?’ look. I usually don’t hold that much hope, then “No, we don’t but we have nude bras.” I get shown a beige/light pink/mushroom/dead corpse-coloured bra. I try to be polite because that’s how I was raised and my parents read this blog. “Well… that colour doesn’t really work on me.”

Surprisingly, this isn’t even that awkward because most of the time the sales associate will tell me that brown bras aren’t made that often and they do buy them when they’re available. One store did say that they always ask. I like them. This is why they’re my first choice and I will spend money on a brown bra.

When they do have brown bras, it’s like winning the lottery. I immediately try it on. It fits? Doesn’t show through a white shirt? I’ll take it. No, I don’t care how much it costs.

More brown bras, please. In different shades.

(Inspired by the death of my bra prompting me to groan when I thought about looking for another one. I should have bought two.)

Edited to add: I love the Internet. This goes up and my friend Alexandra sends me this link: http://www.myskins.com/. Sizes are limited but nudes! In different colours!
