God Save the Queen at The Room
I had the opportunity to attend the God Save the Queen event at The Room in The Bay, thanks to Kimberly Lyn. The event celebrated the works of some of Britain’s best young designers including Charlotte Olympia Dellal, Erdem Moralioglu, Jonathan Saunders, Marios Schwab, Mark Fast, Nicolas Kirkwood and Giles Deacon. Ok, Mark Fast is originally from Winnipeg, but he lives and works in London.
The event was shiny and glitzy as some of the best dressed of Toronto came out in their finest, but the event wasn’t about them. It was about the works of the British designers. I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to see their clothes and shoes up close again (I certainly can’t afford to pay retail!) but what I saw was stunning.
Take a look at the detail on this dress from Christopher Kane:
And these fun shoes from Charlotte Olympia Dellal:
Ms. Dellal has quite a sense of humour. I love her banana bag:
But Erdem. Oh Erdem. I saw his work close up, so close my nose was practically in the fabric. Now I understand why Sarah Brown and SamCam love your dresses. The details are beautiful and well-crafted.
I think seeing this before AUDI’s Art of Progression spoiled me, which is unfortunate.
