Contemplating Ikea for a DIY
I’ve been looking for a coffee table for a while. The problem is, the image in my head doesn’t match what I’ve seen (or my budget).
I was chatting with the manager of a lifestyle store and she suggested creating what I want so I took a look at Ikea and found this table. Why? Easy, it’s not expensive and if I ruin the DIY, I would not have spent much money.
Yes, I know Ikea is considered disposable but if this works, then this piece of furniture will become a part of my decor for a long time.
So here’s what I want to do: I want to paint and/or lacquer the table in a deep moody indigo or a very dark green. I want the colour to be almost black yet have depth.
The alternative is to paint it an off-white or cream and sand it so it looks aged. I’m leaning towards the dark colour. I get a lot of light in my place plus the dark will anchor the reds, yellow and greys in my place.
What I have to do now is learn how to apply lacquer, buy the table and have at it. I’ll post pictures.
