Finally settling in after four years
I think I’ve finally put down roots. After all, it took three years to decide on a colour to paint my walls and now, in year four, I’ve made the move and ordered bookshelves.
It’s really time to stop treating my place like a rental. I can’t do massive renovations but I can do some small things to perk the place up. The goal, as I was telling a friend in the same situation, is to think jewel box – a small place filled with treasures you love in colours you love and is comfortable and welcoming.
As such, after ordering the bookshelves – Asterix 5 Ladder shelf from EQ3 – I’ve started small with spray painting a favourite lamp. It’s cheesy in a space retro way thanks to the shade but a little boring in just plain white enamel.
I decided to paint parts of it a matte blue and leave some gold and white for an almost nautical feel. It’ll go with my grey couch and coffee table.
So far, it looks good. I’m tempted to spray the shade the same blue or even do a soft gold. It’ll be dark but I think with a light it’ll look good. I do need to touch up a few bits where the tape covered.
Next, get rid of the love seat. I inherited it from my parents when they got their new set. It’s still in good shape but I don’t use it except for when I have company which isn’t enough to justify keeping it. It seats two but I can easily replace those two seats with two chairs.
