Rushing the line to see The Stag starring Andrew Scott

Diane and I did the rush again on Tuesday, taking a break on Monday to relax and maybe, just maybe to let our karma kick back in after Sunday when we just missed tickets to Half A Yellow Sun. We lined up, a full two hours in advance, for The Stag, an Irish film about, well, a stag do. It stars Andrew Scott, Moriaty for BBC Sherlock fans and Brian Gleeson, son of Brendan Gleeson – who we’re pretty sure was there.

Thanks to Diane, we had a prime spot in line and got to nearly the front when a shiny SUV pulled up. Guess who was in it?

Yes, Andrew Scott. He was gracious, signing autographs and posing for pictures despite, as I described, looking saturated with jet lag. And some bedhead crossed with the effects of humidity. Inside, I found myself standing next to him as we all tried to find seats before the start of the movie.

The Stag is a charming movie with lots of laughs  – I won’t spoil it for you by saying anymore. After the movie was a Q&A with the entire cast, director and co-writer, Irish novelist and television writer, John Butler, and the producers.

So far, TIFF has been pretty good. The part I’m enjoying is that I’m seeing fun movies and Q&As and I don’t have to write about it because I have to. Yes, I’m blogging about the experience for work but that’s because I want to. Huge difference.

On a side note, this seems to be the day when people are starting to get TIFF fatigue. In the two hours we lined up, at least a dozen people walked the line trying to sell or even just give away their tickets to the various movies playing. Hopefully this bodes well for the rest of the week.
